5.28.10 - THANK YOU!

First and foremost, a huge collective THANK YOU for such an amazing turnout and show last Sunday at the Watermark!!

The silent auction was a total success, and we had such a great time with you all!! Thanks to everyone who got into the bidding and to each and every one of you for your incredibly generous donations to the band and the process. We are just beside ourselves with love and appreciation for our fans, friends, and family. In all seriousness, you're the absolute best.

We're really excited about this new record, and now we have the means to finish it and take a huge step forward. It's been an amazing process making this one, and we've learned so much about ourselves as a band, as brothers. We're looking forward to rewarding you all for your kindness and will be putting our brains together tonight to brew up something special.

Love for our auction donors - Brad Windsor, Jon Nelson, Stacey Millett, Candy Millett, Bonnie Raitt and Get Right Inc., Ellie Richman and Bella's Beauty Bar, Polly and Steve and Zoey's Cafe, The Watermark restaurant, and Kara Twist Jones for her tireless preparation and running of the auction. You are all heroes to us.

We will be sharing more anecdotes and updates soon on all the auction winners. There promises to be some good stories..

5.17.10 - Baby, I Need You

It's a statement that is generally defined by lovers. It's both mature and vulnerable. In a way that's what we are. We create something that moves you, a sound in which you fiercely connect, and in return we feel loved. The circle remains unbroken.

We have created a body of work that we really believe in. Sessions began in May of 2009 at the Barn. We whittled 30 songs and unfinished ideas into 14, and began recording with producer/engineer Michael Dumas in Ojai at Audio International. It's been an amazing year, and we are nearly at the finish line. Which of course is also the starting line. Working with Michael has given us a big, honest, exciting sound to our songs, and we are seriously bursting at the seams to share them..

We are done recording, but we have a couple more steps. Mixing/Mastering and Art/packaging. It isn't a backbreaking amount of money, but is certainly more than we have. We put our heads together and decided we would ask you for help. In return, we will also help you in the specific ways that we can. See below:

1.12.10 - A Free Concert - January 18

THE BOOTLEG THEATER

MONDAY, JANUARY 18 2010
2220 Beverly Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90057

8 PM - NO COVER

Some really great perks of this upcoming show:

* both the Northstar Session and Population Game are playing the same show. awesome bands, outstanding humans.

* it is free, all ages, and it servers beer, wine, ($4-6 range) and has an awesome back patio for carbonites and thrill seekers.

* the sound is very clear and good in the main music room. We dropped in last night to catch the Northstar set. Seriously killer!

* parking is free and plentiful (park behind BOOTLEG or across the street at the church. there's a bit of construction in the center of the street, as the area builds character)

* so yeah. to sum it all up: a recession bustin, leg thumpin, wet willyin' good time for all and it would just be silly not to come.

*** if you're driving south on HWY 101, exit Alvarado st. when you are gettin close to downtown L.A. and turn right. Turn right again at Beverly and the BOOTLEG will be on your left. Park at the church on your right, or behind the BOOTLEG. I'm writing that word in all caps because to find the music you will need to walk into the door under the BOOTLEG sign at 2220 Beverly Blvd.

*** coming north on 101, exit Alvarado and make a left.

Fans, friends, and family - The most helpful thing you can do for us right now is bring someone new to the show. Slow the digital snake and help us spread live music. If you enjoy some Shades of Day, please do pass us along. Thank you!

If you have any questions at all, please send a message. See you soon.

12.18.09

Good Lord.

It's been 10 years since Y2K... Nobody was friends with Tom yet... Facebook was just a glimmer in Zuckerberg's eye..
but what else?

Finland rewrote their constitution, The billionth living person in India was born, 405 The Movie - the first short film widely distributed on the Internet was released. Sweet little film if ya haven't seen it.

Gore fought hard for the presidency, but lost it. The W years began...

It's all history now, so what's next? Bring on a new year, a new decade! This next decade holds some great surprises. Let's hope it works out different than some say...

We know for sure that on New Year's Eve we won't be thinking about any of that stuff. It's rock and roll time at GOOD BAR.

SHADES OF DAY with KYLE HUNT AND KING GYPSY

Music starts at 8 pm and goes until you pass out or stumble out completely satisfied and ready to kick some 2010 ass.

IT's ALL GOOD is located at 533 E. Main St. in downtown Ventura, CA. Park in one of the downtown lots. There are numerous hotels close by if you wanna spend the nite. I think some of us are staying at the Vagabond down the street.

Tickets are $15 if you get them now! You can get them at GOOD, or you can buy them securely online HERE. If you're a last minute kind of person, keepin them options open... No worries. You can get tix at the door too for $20.

Wear your New Year's best and come ready to party.

Album news..

The anticipation of releasing a record is such an intense feeling. I imagine more so now than ever before. The system has changed. The way we find, listen to, and consume music is reminiscent of the underground street tape days, but so much less fun. The art of getting music to those who want it has been somewhat abandoned. I like that the single is big, and still believe that the album is very relevant.

Vinyl has worked it's way back into the hearts of music lovers and I've heard of more than a couple "record stores" actually opening and prospering. That's encouraging and exciting. Mp3's may be king and streaming may be the future, but that doesn't mean the process should be shortened or cheapened.

Take your time and do it right, have a big show to celebrate it. Bust it out in a weekend, burn 100 copies and play on the street corner... How it gets into people's ears and stays there is by loving the process...

We're getting close. Main vocals are done, we're workin on singin sweet harmonies and adding a couple flourishes and we're about done. We're quite a proud bunch of this here album. It's absolute Shades of Day.

COMING UP:

Monday Jan 18 2010 @ The Bootleg Theater with The Northstar Session and Population Game. Both GREAT bands. This isn't a show it's a concert...and this one's free. 2220 Beverly Blvd Los Angeles, CA 8 pm

Thursday and Friday March 18-19 @ One 2 One Bar SXSW! We're putting together a weeklong tour from Ventura to Austin. Can't wait. Warn your Texans. 121 E. 5th Street @ Brazos - Austin, TX 78701

See you soon! Thank you for listening.

Brendan, Matt, Micah, Bruce and Rick.
